Abstract

The World Scleroderma Foundation Conference produced a number of abstracts of potential clinical interest. Multiple treatments for systemic sclerosis (SSC) are being brought forward; among these are studies of prokinetics for the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), mycophenolate mofetil and tocilizumab. Ultrasound of the skin overall, skin ulcers, lungs and musculoskeletal system shows progress and shows the potential usefulness of ultrasound. Capillaroscopy, too, continues to be developed. Fatigue is being more carefully examined and indicates the multifactorial nature of this symptom, although fatigue is not usually due to lack of sleep. In addition, several other areas were described, including gastrointestinal involvement in SSC and measurement of response criteria for juvenile systemic sclerosis.
