Abstract

The Fifth Edition of this book maintains the high standards of the previous editions. The extensive additions to the knowledge of treatment, epidemiology and control of parasitic diseases that have been made in the past few years have been included in the new text. This book consists of six sections. Section I is a general discussion of the parasite and its environment, including the epidemiology of parasitic infections. This general introduction serves as an excellent orientation for students of zoology, medicine and public health. Section II covers the protozoan infections of man, with special emphasis on Endamoeba histolytica and the malaria parasites. The colored illustrations of malaria are the excellent ones from Wilcox's Manual for the Microscopical Diagnosis of Malaria in Man. Section III covers helminthic infections of man and is very complete, including a number of the less commonly found parasites. Section IV covers the problems of arthropods and human disease.
