Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical effect and side effects of focused ultrasound therapy in the treatment of chronic cervicitis. Methods From May 2007 to October 2009,a total of 288 patients with chronic cervicitis diagnosed by papsmear and colposcopy examination were choosen.Among them,148 patients were treated with focused ultrasound and 140 patients with microwave. All patients were followed up for 3 months after treatment, the efficacy, adverse reactions and complications of the two methods were compared and analyzed statistically. Results In the focused ultrasound group,97 cases (65.54%) had cured,43 cases (29.05%)had obvious improvement, and 8 cases (5.41%) had improvement, the effective rate was 100%.The cure rate was related with the degree and type of cervical erosion (P < 0.05).In the microwave group,101 cases(72.14%) had cured,34 cases (24.29%)had obvious improvement, and 5 cases(3.57%)had improvement, the effective rate was 100%.The cure rate was related with the degree and type of cervical erosion (P < 0.05).There was no significant difference in the clinical effect between the two groups (P > 0.05),but there were significant differences in complications and the side effects such as vaginal discharge and hemorrhage between the two groups (P < 0.05).Conclusions Chronic cervicitis can be treated by focused ultrasound therapy effectively and safely with rare complications, especially more suitable for non-pregnant women.Focused ultrasound is efficient, safe, minimally invasive and environmental protected methods, and can be popularized.
