Abstract

Objective To observe the effect of acupuncture combined with Chinese medicine footbath on treatment of hypertension.Methods 80 cases of essential hypertension patients were randomly divided into observation group and control group. Both groups took oral Nifedipine sustained release tablets while the observation group received acupuncture combined with Chinese medicine footbath additionally. Effect of blood pressure control, symptom control and recurrence were compared.Results Total rate of blood pressure control of the observation group and the control group were 97.5% and 90%, respectively. There was no significant difference between the groups (χ2=1.81,P>0.05). The observation group showed significantly better symptom control than the control group (χ2=2.904,P<0.05). The control group showed significantly higher recurrence than the observation group (χ2=10.78,P<0.05).Conclusions Acupuncture combined with Chinese medicine footbath could effectively reduce blood pressure, improve symptoms and stabilize blood pressure.
