Abstract

Objective To explore and investigate the effects of the multiple intervention to neonatal dacryocystitis. Methods Seventy-eight cases (97 eyes) of congenital dacryocystitis from September 2014 through September 2015 were studied. All the cases were grouped in three categories: 1 month to 6 months, 7 to 12 months, and 13 to 24 months. Lacrimal sac massage, flushing pressure, and probing of lacrimal passage were operated in turn, the therapeutic effect of different groups were compared. Successful cases were defined with absence of symptoms and signs like tearing, crusting, and discharge, regurgitation with pressure on the lacrimal sac. Results All of the 78 cases (97 eyes) were cured, of which, 2 eyes were given antibiotic eye drops and with lacrimal sac massage only. No one need to be combined with silicone tube implanted. Bony lacrimal duct obstruction had not been found. Conclusions Multiple interventions to congenital dacryocystitis are simple and effective, and can improve prognosis.
