Abstract

Objective To analyze the timing and method of 1012 cases of neonatal dacryocystitis. Methods A total of 1012 cases (1172 eyes) of neonatal dacryocystitis patients were divided into four groups of <2 months, 3~6 months, 7~12 months, 13~28 months, and patients with different age were treated with different treatments, the treatment of lacrimal sac massage and flushing lacrimal passage for children below 2 months were taken. If flushing lacrimal passage for children above 3 months was to no avail, probing lacrimal passage was applied. The post operative follow-up periods were 1 month to 12 months. Results Among 226 eyes, 12 eyes of 12 months (66.67%). There was statistical significant difference between two groups (P <0.05). Conclusions The treatment of lacrimal sac massage and flushing lacrimal passage for children 3 months, and it is a safe and effective method for treating neonatal dacryocystitis, and probing lacrimal passage is best for children 3~12 months.
