Abstract

Objective To observe the clinical curative effect of drainage treatment for acute malignant pleural effusion by central venous catheter (CVC), Methods The patients with acute malignant pleural effusion were randomly divided into two groups. The thoracentesis and CVC drainage were operated respectively, and mitomycin was intrapleurally infused simultaneously. Results The control rate of pleural effusion in CVC drainage group was superior to that in thoracentesis group, and the CVC drainage had better clinical tolerance, small side effect, and satisfactory results. Conclusions The CVC drainage can drain pleural effusion to its maximum on treatment of acute malignant pleural effusion, and lay a solid foundation for the ultimate control of pleural effusion with advantages of safe operation, convenience, and good curative effect. Key words: Acute malignant pleural effusion; Central venous catheter; Mitomycin
