Abstract

The study was conducted on 6 clinical cases of long bone (femur/humerus) fractures in dogs. The cases with closed fracture were included in this study for open reduction and internal fixation using intramedullary interlocking nailing. Demineralized bone matrix was applied at the fracture site to hasten the fracture healing. Fracture healing was evaluated by clinical and radiographic examination at regular intervals. The weight bearing increased and lameness decreased as days progressed. It can be concluded that the osteoinductive and osteoconductive property of DBM accelerated fracture healing resulting in early weight bearing and radiographic union bone fractures. DBM can be used to accelerate the healing process in fracture of long bones stabilized with ILN in dogs.
