Abstract

Objective To investigate the histopathological and clinical features of lacrimal epithelial tumors. Methods A retrospective study of 113 cases of lacrimal epithelial tumors from Ophthalmic Pathology Laboratory, Tianjin Eye Hospital (1980 to 2009) was performed to investigate the clinical features, histopathological classification and prognosis, which based on the current World Health Organization classification of salivary gland tumors. Results In the cases, pleomorphic adenoma was the most common tumor (73 cases,64.6%), followed by adenoid cystic carcinoma (23 cases, 20.4%), carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma(9 cases,8.0%) and other malignant epithelial tumors (8 cases, 7.0%). Conclusions Epithelial tumors of lacrimal gland have different pathological types, each type has different clinical features, treatment and prognosis. The correct and detail pathological diagnosis is important for selecting the proper treatment and postoperative management.
