Abstract
Diabetic retinopathy(DR) is one of the severest complications of diabetes,whose pathology is microvascular dysfunction mostly.Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) focused on vanishing blood stasis,and combined with clearing heat,cooling blood,nourishing and so on during different stages of DR.The drugs decreased reactive oxygen species(ROS) inducing,inhibited oxidative stress,apoptosis,inflammation,angiogenesis to ameliorate vision,macular edema,microvascular,and to inhibit new vessels appearing,via down-regulating advanced glycation end products(AGEs),polyol,poly polymerase(PARP),protein kinase C(PKC) and hexosamine pathways hyperglycemia induced.In this study,TCM on clinical and basic research on DR was reviewed.
