Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical types of the ocular injuries and damage mechanism caused by automotive air-bags. Methods Retrospective analysis of 35 cases (60 eyes) with ocular injuries due to automotive air-bags who were treated in author' s hospital during 2002 to 2009. Results All of 35 cases (60 eyes ) had conjunctival and corneal abrasions. There were 46-eyes (76.67%) complicated with corneal alkali burn,22 eyes(36.67% ) complicated with the contusion of cornea stroma,2 eyes complicated with traumatic hyphema. There were 4 patients wearing glasses, three of them had blepharal lacerations and one of them had corneal laceration. Conclusion Automotive air-bags can cause a variety types of ocular injuries. Improving the recognition of the present ocular injureies, making an earlier diagnosis and proper treamtnet may benefit to restore the sight.
