The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) described climate change as long-term changes in temperature, humidity, clouds, and rainfall and not to routine variations (IPCC 2007). Inevitably, Climate change is the matter of critical concern that is faced by today’s humanity. Climate change is the very significant challenge that have an effect on the very survival of life on earth and has implications for food, water, biodiversity, energy, and health etc. The environment and sectors related to socio-economic conditions of the country, which consist of resources that are associated with water, agriculture production and food security, biodiversity and another related sector are comprehensively affected by the climate change. It also results in changing pattern of rainfall, and these changes in rainfall give rise to the problem of stringent water shortage or flooding. It also causes a rapid increase in mean temperature, which gives pace to the rate of melting of glaciers further leading to flooding, the rise in sea level and soil erosion. Increasing temperature also causes an alteration of the season for crops production which in turn affects food security. The following paper addresses the term ‘climate change.’ And the challenged posed by the climate change for India. Being a developing country, India is extremely susceptible to the consequences of climate change because it could impede its economic progress. This paper is descriptive in nature and to be accomplished by using historical analytical method.
