Abstract

The climate crisis threatens the foundation of life in the Caribbean. Due to the Caribbean's reliance on its tourism economy, it suffered greatly during the covid19 pandemic. The Caribbean faced the issue of their mainly agrarian base being exhausted and having to depend on tourism. There are several geographical factors that have contributed to shaping the Caribbean's propensity to be vulnerable. These factors of limited resources, susceptibility to natural disasters, vulnerability create a challenge to achieving sustained external shocks, excessive dependence on trade, and fragile environments make it a challenge to achieve sustainable development goals. Climate change has enhanced these factors with sea-level rise, ocean acidification, and more creating a loss of fisheries and biodiversity. Climate change is presenting challenges that the Caribbean cannot face alone and will require global action to help prevent climate change.
