Abstract

The following paper shows a plan of re-organization of an already existing trade region in the city of Dortmund. In this plan the situation of the environment is to be especially taken into account. The most important aspects resulting from the climatological research concerning the trade region's design are the ventilation of the inner-city region, the heating of the presently paved areas and the climatic stress factors. In addition to recommendations for the whole region and the neighbouring areas, micro-scale statements become necessary. Besides the complex subject of climate and air hygiene, attention is paid to some more ecological fields from which ideas for planning are developed. Several problems concerning the project's aims will arise in connection with the attempt to guarantee jobs and to establish new business. In order to overcome these problems, different scenarios of a possible configuration will be presented and submitted to careful consideration. The resulting planning project and in particular the climate's role in the final state will be discussed.
