Abstract

This speech is a luncheon address from the 73rd Annual Meeting of the American Meteorological Society, on the January 19, 1993. It primarily deals with the climate of the Southern Hemisphere. The author discusses how global climate change has become a primary concern in world affairs. Also discussed is the need for the implementation of the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) as it emerged from the 1990 Second World Climate Conference.
