Abstract

To know, understand and propose are the three basic steps in any coastal management, this article presenta the resulta of the work done to know and understand the marine and littoral dynamics of the Tumaco bay, as the firsts steps towards the implementation of the proposal for using the El Guano island as a protection barrier against Tsunami waves, of the population of Tumaco, That island disappeared on the 1979 tsunami event and is being proposed to rebuilt it. From this article, it can be understood the importance of the El Mira river for the Tumaco people, because their islands are formed from the sedimenta of this river, it also be known basic marine dynamics data useful to determine the shape and cross section of the future island, all of the above from numerical models, and surveys data, and from nautical charts, mapa, aerial photographs and satellite image comparison.
