Abstract
Clement's acquaintance with and dependence upon the Epistle to the Hebrews is acknowledged by nearly everyone. Clement's epistle does not lack allusions to other parts of the Epistle to the Hebrews. It is not surprising that the New Testament (NT) writing best attested in Clement's epistle is Paul's First Epistle to the Corinthians. Not only did both epistles have the same destination, but both were written for the same purpose. It must be remembered that Clement does not actually quote from any of the Pauline epistles or Hebrews. The allusions to 2 Corinthians in Clement's epistle may not happen to be as clear as those to 1 Corinthians, but they remain valid possibilities and cannot be ignored. Clement thus provides us with indications that the greater part of the Pauline corpus was probably known to him and was present to his mind as he wrote in 95 AD.Keywords: Clement's epistIe; Hebrews; New Testament (NT); Pauline epistles
