Abstract

Immune activation as a result of the recognition of damage-associated molecular patterns needs to be controlled. In this issue of Immunity, Neumann etal. (2014) demonstrates that Clec12a is a receptor for dead cells through the recognition of uric acid crystals and contributes to the dampening of the responses.
