Abstract
Several historians specialized on alienists in the xixth century in France have already addressed columns more or less elaborated on Dr Claude-François Michéa. He was one of the 35 founding members of the Société Médico-Psychologique in 1852 and its treasurer-archivist till 1855. There have also been numerous articles written on his work published in his lifetime. However, there weren’t any exhaustive biography until today's book entitled L’impossible conciliation ou la vie héroïque du Dr Claude-François Michéa written by Jean-Claude Féray. The author elucidates why at the time of death of Dr. Michéa in 1882, the bureau of the Society presided that year by Eugène Dally, only announced Michéa's disappearance by Legrand du Saulle, Bourguignon as he, did not review Dr. Michéa's career and work as tradition would have required. First, we had considered elements of Michéa's biography, contextualizing them in the history of psychiatry and legal medicine from the Restoration till the IIIrd Republic. Then, we analyse Féray's work.
