Abstract

The mean-field analysis of the antiferromagnetic XY model on a square lattice under magnetic field is carried out. First and second nearest spin interactions are considered. The role played by competing and noncompeting interactions in the critical behavior of the system are studied. The phenomenon of a continuous degeneracy breaking effect due to temperature excitations and dilution is examined and discussed.
