Abstract

With the same heart, the Episcopacy and the Christian Democrat denounced an Authority and a Law based on materialistic doctrines. However a difference rose between them concerning the practical ways to incarnate the Christian ideal in the Society. As followers of the immanence method, the Christian Democrats tried to convert to Christianity the Maurice Hauriou legal theory of the Institution. The answer of the hierarchy was an attempt to teach the Catholics public-spiritedness through a traditionalist political catechism. Moreover, the Assembly of Cardinals and Archbishops investigated those political matters. The Prelates gave a mild consent to the «Croix de Feu» while keeping their distance from the «Parti démocrate populaire».
