Abstract

Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE) established the Civil Engineering Heritage Award in 2000 to preserve a historical civil engineering project by honoring a Civil Engineering inheritance. About 20 projects have been selected yearly based on recommendations or their application. To overview water projects and technologies in Japan, water-related projects among 448 total recipients of the JSCE Civil Engineering Heritage Award until 2020 are chosen and analyzed to discuss their characteristics concerning project type, time, and location. Among the remarkable features in the field of hydraulic engineering are the notable contributions of Dutch engineers employed during the early stage of the Meiji Era.
