Abstract

Cirrhosis of the liver is a life-threatening chronic liver disease, accompanied by an irreversible replacement of the parenchymal tissue of the liver with fibrous connective tissue, or stroma. In economically developed countries, cirrhosis is one of the six main causes of death in patients aged 35 to 60, accounting for 14-30 cases per 100,000 population. Every year, 40 million people worldwide die from viral cirrhosis of the liver and hepatocellular carcinoma, which develops against the background of carriage of the hepatitis B virus. In the CIS countries, cirrhosis occurs in 1% of the population. Diagnosing advanced cirrhosis is not as difficult as treating it. However, in order to select the most effective treatment regimen, it is necessary to carefully study all aspects in the liver disorders. This approach to the prevention and treatment of liver cirrhosis is based on research protocols and therapeutic programs recognized in European countries using new and safe drugs.
