Abstract

Rationale: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of mortality worldwide and post-prandial lipemia is a major risk factor for CVD, which is defined as the post-food intake period when triglyceride and cholesterol levels increase. Recent studies have shown that there is a relationship between lipid metabolism, postprandial lipemia and the expression of certain microRNAs (miRNAs). miRNAs are small RNAs that post-transcriptionally regulate gene expression and govern complex biological pathways. So, they could be considered as potential therapeutic targets.
