Abstract
This paper presents a slot antenna with circularly polarized (CP) radiating pattern based on half-mode substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity. A quarter-wavelength slot and three inserted metalized via arrays are employed to form the cavity backed slot radiator. Furthermore, the CP radiation has been achieved by a quarter-wavelenth slot mode and a half-mode SIW cavity which are orthogonal to each other. The antenna is fabricated on a low-cost FR4 board. The antenna bandwidth covers the frequency range 2.4-2.48 GHz for| S 11 | < −10 dB. The axial ratio (|AR| < 3 dB) frequency band is from 2.452 to 2.472 GHz. The measured maximum gain and radiation efficiency of the prototype are better than 2.4 dBi and 48 % within the impedance bandwidth, respectively. Therefore, it's very suitable for low-cost WIFI application which requires directive CP radiation.
