Abstract

A circularly polarised (CP) planar Luneberg lens antenna for mm-wave wireless communication is presented. Fed by a rectangular patch antenna, this planar Luneberg lens antenna is based on dielectric slab waveguide (DSW). The CP radiation is achieved by exciting transverse magnetic (TM 0 ) and transverse electric (TE 0 ) modes with 90° phase difference in DSW. The desired refractive index of Luneberg lens antenna is obtained by shaping the surface of dielectric slab. The CP planar Luneberg lens antenna is fabricated and measured. Simulated and measured results are given, showing reasonable agreement and good antenna performance.
