Abstract

This paper discusses the development of circular sector printed antenna array to accomplish the need of high gain antenna for S-band radar application. The array of antenna consists of 4 individual antenna elements which are uniformly fed by a corporate feeding network using a λ/4 transformer impedance matching technique. The proposed antenna array which is designed to operate at frequency of 2.1GHz is numerically investigated to have an optimum performance in which some antenna parameters including return loss, voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR), working bandwidth, gain, and radiation pattern are used as performance indicators. Based on the design result, the array of antenna is then deployed on a 1.6mm thick Flame Retardant (FR) 4 Epoxy dielectric substrate with the dimension of 340mm × 100mm. From measurement result, although the measured center operating frequency is 60MHz shifted higher than the simulated one, in general it shows that the measured working bandwidth is 100MHz for VSWR less than 2 ranges from the frequency of 2.105GHz–2.215GHz and the measured gain is up to 8dB at frequency of 2.1GHz.
