Abstract

AbstractThis paper describes a prototype implementation and experimental results for unstructured circuit emulation service (UCES) of T3 data stream over Ethernet. As explained in Part 1 of this paper,1 packet‐switched networks such as Ethernet are not designed to transport TDM data and so have no inherent clock distribution and synchronization mechanisms. Thus, to allow the frequency of the source TDM stream to be regenerated at the receiver, the prototype employed the clock synchronization scheme described in Part 1 of this paper. Our experiments showed that the recovered clock conforms to ITU‐T G.824 requirements2 even for networks that introduce high jitter and packet loss. Copyright © 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
