Abstract

Billboard Lights so far have been working on manual labor switching them ON and OFF at certain hours of the day. This requires a person to travel from one place to another to make the change. This results in causing a great amount of inconvenience to achieve this cumbersome task. Using Global System for Mobile Communication(GSM) networks, one can monitor and control devices locally using built-in input and output peripherals. Remotely the system allows the user to effectively monitor and control the equipment via the mobile phone set by sending commands in the form of Dual Tone Multi-Frequency (DTMF) Tone. The main concept behind the project is receiving the call and a fix DTMF tone and processing it further as required to perform several operations. The type of the operation to be performed depends on the key pressed. The principle in which the project is based is fairly simple. Firstly, the DTMF tone is sent via the mobile keypad and then it is decoded by a decoder and sent to the intermediate hardware that we have designed according to the command received in form of the DTMF tone. However, with Automated Billboard Lights, the same lights can be turned ON and OFF remotely without having to commute from one place to another. Thus providing ease of access as well as reducing the consumption of electricity in the process. With the help of the widespread GSM network and the simplicity of the DTMF, we can ensure the electricity savings up to 20% per billboard.
