Abstract

A new reading is given for the CIL, II²/5, 316 inscription, from Igabrum (Cabra, Cordoba), based on a revision of the manuscript tradition. This manuscript gave the curriculum of a knight from Baetica, who had been praefectus fabrum, then military tribune in the legio VI Victrix, and then magistrate in the colonia Patricia, finally reaching the provincial flaminate. Such a career, including local honores after the sequence praefectura fabrum – military tribunate, is typical of the Augustan and Julio-Claudian period, which leads to a revision of the chronology of the document which could date back to the end of the Julio-Claudians, or the very beginning of the Flavian dynasty. Such a chronology raises questions about the origins of the provincial flaminate of Baetica, and about the commonly-accepted assumption that it was a Flavian creation.

Dans les lignes qui suivent, nous souhaiterions examiner à nouveau le dossier d’un troisième prêtre provincial de Bétique, qu’on date généralement du règne de Domitien ou de Trajan
