Abstract

apparently new, severe condition (Figs. 1-7) first described in 1997. While CODD is reported to present a different clinical picture from virulent footrot (Fig. 8) and white line lesions (Fig. 9) there are few convincing published images. The isolation of spirochaetes resembling those involved in digital dermatitis in cattle from some, but not all, suspected clinical cases in sheep has led to the adoption of the current name. However, the isolation of the same spirochaetes from apparently normal feet, and the occurrence of mixed infections of ovine foot lesions with the causal agents of virulent foot-rot, provide ample opportunity for confusion. This report describes severe lameness of several months’ duration in a group of ten Cheviot ewes in poor body condition presenting with CODD-like lesions.
