Abstract
SUMMARYThe genus Getbyllis (Amaryllidaceae) is endemic of Southern Africa. Eight species have been examined cytologically and in all species the chromosome complement is among the largest in the plant kingdom. It consists of five large and one small chromosome pairs. On the basis of chromosome morphology, the eight species can be subdivided into two groups with four species each. The two groups show some geographical bias with one group apparently occupying exclusively the Northern part of the distribution area.
