Abstract

In eight strains of hexaploid Triticale (2n = 42) which had undergone seven to eight generations of selection for improved agronomic characteristics, the mean frequency of aneuploid plants in bulk populations was 11.5%. Most aneuploids were monosomic and differences in the mean frequencies of aneuploids between lines were nonsignificant. In the immediate progeny of euploid plants, the average aneuploid frequency for eight lines was 8.8%, varying from a low of about 3% in those strains involving Triticum turgidum L. var. dicoccon as one parent, to approximately 11% in those strains with Triticum turgidum L. var. durum or Triticum turgidum L. var. carthlicum (persicum) as parents.
