Abstract
SUMMARYChromosome pairing at metaphase I in the pentaploid F1 hybrid (Aegilops bicornis × A. squarrosa) × (Triticum durum var. Carleton × A. squarrosa) (2n = 5x = 35; BSbDDA) was studied. It is estimated that a mean of 4.5 bivalents per cell with a range from 0–7 was formed by the Sb and B genomes. The genome of A. bicornis is not completely homologous with the B genome of T. durum, but may be more homologous than suggested previously. The complete sterility of the hybrid precludes its use in breeding programmes.
