Abstract
A reduction in the chromatin template activity of WI38 cells of different ages has been demonstrated using (1) the endogenous RNA polymerase of the host cell and (2) exogenously supplied E. coli RNA polymerase. The consistency between these two methods suggests that the reduction in chromatin template activity of these cells is age-associated and may represent changes in gene activity during in vitro aging.
