Abstract
!The neural origin of all intradermal nevus cells has been proposed on the basis of their cholinesterase activity and lack of tyrosinase in contrast to the junction nevus cell (1, 2). However, tyrosinase studies of intradermal nevi after ultraviolet irradiation reveal not only an intensified dopa reaction but also a positive tyrosinase reaction in large epithelioid A-type and small B-type intradermal nevus cells, in addition to their cholinesterase activity (3). Furthermore, electron microscopy of intradermal nevi demonstrates the presence of an enzymically active melanosome system in the cytoplasm of these cells (4).
