Abstract
1. 1. Choline acetyltransferase activity was detected in nervous tissue of both the leech and the Norway lobster. 2. 2. In the case of the leech the pH for optimum activity was 7·4 and the optimum temperature 33°C. Under these conditions the level of activity in the ganglion was 53 nmoles acetylcholine (ACh) per mg. protein per hour; the activity in the commissures was much lower: 1·5 nmoles ACh per mg. protein per hour. 3. 3. The pH for optimal activity in nervous tissue from the Norway lobster was 7·5 and the temperature optimum 22° C. Under optimal conditions the average level of activity was very high: 408 nmoles ACh per mg. protein per hour.
