Abstract
In this presented work, synthesis of poly(HEMA-GMA) cryogel, its modification with β-cyclodextrin and its usability for cholesterol removal were investigated. For this, cryogels were prepared by cryocopolymerization technique and modified covalently by β-cyclodextrin. Prepared cryogels were characterized by FTIR, SEM studies and swelling test. Maximum cholesterol adsorption efficiency of the β-cyclodextrin immobilized poly(HEMA-GMA) cryogel was found to be as 291 mg/g cryogel. These β-cyclodextrin functionalized cryogels were used repeatedly for 50 times without any significant decrease in their cholesterol recognition capability. Cholesterol removal efficiency of the β-cyclodextrin immobilized poly(HEMA-GMA) cryogel was also tested from egg yolk, milk and artificial human serum samples.
