Abstract
Unequal access to the internet and devices that can connect to it – digital inequality – affects millions of young people around the world. But this form of inequality manifests in different ways depending on where children and adolescents live, affecting their daily lives and access to opportunities differently as a result. This chapter explains and summarizes research at three interlocking levels of digital inequality: in digital access, skills and practices, and outcomes, and explains why this form of social inequality is crucial to understanding how children's and adolescent's media engagement affects their developmental trajectories today, and likely will in the future.
