Abstract
Children’s literature is a social, cultural and artistic product that appeals to young readers. It is also a transmitter of cultural values, and a reflection of social change in our history. The International Library of Children’s Literature (ILCL) is a national library dedicated to children’s books, which provides, through international collaboration, library services concerning children’s literature published in Japan and abroad. The ILCL provides children with various opportunities to learn the pleasure of reading and become familiar with books and libraries, through reference services, story hour for children and events. As a national library, an important role of the ILCL is to support the people who hand books to children, i.e., librarians, school librarians and other people involved in children’s reading activities. The research practice programme has been developed so junior-high and high school students can experience searching for specific information in a library.
