Abstract
AbstractEsterification of malonic acid with (‐)‐menthol and subsequent condensation reaction with paraformaldehyde yield the dimenthyl methylenemalonate (II) which undergoes Diels‐Alder reaction with cyclopentadiene (I) to give the bicyclo(2.2.1)heptenedicarboxylate (III) as the major isomer.
