AbstractThe synthesis of fused pyridines (IV) and (VI) involves addition on an activated olefinic bond, generated in situ by Knoevenagel condensation between an aromatic aldehyde and an active methylene compound.The Michael product on subsequent cyclocondensation affords the target compound in high yield.
