Abstract The uncatalyzed cycloadditions of 2,6-dialkoxyanthracenes ( 2 ) to cholesteric liquid-crystalline fumarates ( 1 ) serving both as dienophiles and media resulted in highly regioselective formation of the syn -adducts ( 3 )( 70 % d.e.).
