Abstract

The clearance of rose bengal from an intramuscular injection site has been delayed, and the whole body retention of the compound extended, by its incorporation into albumin microspheres cross-linked with glutaraldehyde. The magnitude of this modification in the release and clearance of the rose bengal was directly related to the density of the cross-linked matrix of the microspheres. Results suggest that the higher the density of cross-linking of the albumin microspheres, the slower the rate of their biodegradation, and thus the slower the rate of release of rose bengal.
