Abstract
Chemical migrations during UV writing of Bragg gratings ongermanium doped silica optical fibre preform are seen when the fluence islarge enough. The UV irradiated fringes are depleted in germanium but richin oxygen, whereas the non-irradiated fringes are reduced and enriched insilicon. These chemical modifications lead to an additional refractiveindex modulation which is out of phase with the densification grating.
