The role of chemical interaction in impurity segregation on grain boundaries is considered in the framework of a model that takes into account diffuse distribution of impurities near the grain boundary. The possibility of segregation phase transitions of first and second order is predicted and criteria for determining the order of the phase transition are suggested.
