Abstract

Chemical methods were investigated and are described for studying the products formed in fired ground-coat enamels. The results obtained show that (1) the metallic particles are essentially iron with a trace of nickel, (2) a film of free FeO exists between glass and iron, (3) total FeO content increases with firing time, but the NiO and CoO content remains constant, and (4) no metallic cobalt and only a trace of metallic nickel is present on the iron surface on which ground coats have been fired and then removed.
