Abstract
The chemical composition of endemic Lippia multiflora Mold. essential oils was characterized in three regions in Ivory Coast. Different essential oils were obtained by hydro distillation using the methodology recommended by the European Pharmacopoeia, and were studied by GC-FID and GC-MS. The results showed that the essential oils from plants collected in the south (Abidjan) and center (Toumodi) of Ivory Coast were characterized by similar chemical compositions, dominated by geranial and neral, along with thymol and minor contents of carvacrol. On the other hand, the essential oils from plants harvested in the north-east of Ivory Coast (Bondoukou) contained high amounts of aromatic terpene constituents such as thymol, thymyl acetate and carvacrol. The other constituents, in particular sesquiterpenes, were similar in all samples.
