Abstract
Two recent reports on the content of television present a clear picture. Television presents much more sexual and violent content than it did five or ten years ago. This result is not terribly surprising; there are many examples of pundits noticing the change and (in general) decrying it. And there is no dearth of requests for regulation. However, before one can design effective regulations (assuming that they are a good idea), he should first have a good explanation for why this change has been taking place. Our article attempts to provide just such an explanation.
