Abstract

“Charisma” has been found to be one of the major factors that influence the success of persons in emerging as a great leader or a great teacher. In this paper, we look into the characteristics of “charisma” in general, before proceeding to see if the same characteristics are at work in a “charismatic teacher”. Studies in the area of “charisma” have mainly investigated the characteristics of a “charismatic leader”. The existing scales to measure charisma also focus on charismatic leadership. However, charismatic teachers have, over the ages, been able to inspire, influence and mould students and we need to find out what are the attributes that make such teachers unique. The paper investigates these attributes and seek to find out if there is any commonality with those of a “charismatic leader” as well as those of a “good teacher”.
